Since 2011, young internet singing sensation Austin Mahone has taken the viral world by storm. With a voice like honey and the initiative to conquer the Youtube community and music scene, Mahone’s popularity is rapidly growing.

Though Mahone is only 16 years old, the tone and timbre of his voice would suggest that he is a bit older; it’s a more mature tone, and while it still has a delightful boyish quality to it, it resonates in a deeper way as well. This has probably contributed to his growing popularity; the boy sensation has over 380,000 subscribers on Youtube, and his video views have eclipsed the 71 million mark. No doubt, this is a sign of his current success as well as great things to come.

Often compared to young megastar Justin Bieber, Mahone has actually covered a few of Bieber’s songs online to critical acclaim. His covers of “Never Let You Go” and “Never Say Never” are quite popular, and Alex’s cover of Justin’s “Mistletoe” has even become arguably more popular than the original. He plays acoustic guitar for a lot of his tunes, which is to be respected for a musician of such a young age.

Mahone’s first hit single, 11:11 was released on Valentine’s Day of this past year, and he actually ended up performing in his first major concert on that same night. He grew up in and around San Antonio, Texas and recently moved down to Miami, Florida with his mom. His fans are affectionately called “Mahomies,” which is a catchy play on his last name. They come from all over the country and clamor for more of his covers and originals.

Clad with shiny braces and an unforgettable smile, Mahone has really taken advantage of the internet music craze. The exposure that one can gain from this medium is quite vast, and to be able to fully capture the hearts of viewers is most admirable. Many of his followers are in the teenage female demographic, but he’s got supporters across the board. As mentioned, Mahone has really forged out a niche for himself online, as he’s got various blogs in which he posts actively. He also knows how to play to the crowds, as he regularly interacts with fans and has developed a huge following without the help of a record label. This is a testament to his powerful sense of character. He realizes that the people play a huge part in making a star, and he embraces that and tries to give back to them as much as he can. It all brings the internet community closer to their darling, which will continue to bolster his popularity in the near future.

With a great variety of selections available for home audio equipment, choosing the best one can be confusing. So, if you are planning to buy a new audio system for your home, let this article guide you in selecting the one that best matches your audio needs.

Evaluate your needs before making a decision. Just as what you would do when buying foldable koozies, you have to take into consideration your actual needs before heading to the store to buy the new home audio equipment. You should think how frequent you will use it and where you intend to connect it. If you will be using the system purely for listening, then consider acquiring pre-packaged audio equipment. Meanwhile, if you want to enjoy better sound quality, then buying separate audio components can accomplish this.

Compare and contrast. When you have determined your needs, next thing to do is to compare various makes and models of audio systems for home. Doing so will allow you to pick a model that will not only satisfy your needs but will also match your allotted budget.

Ask yourself important questions to help you make an informed buying decision. Making a list of your needs and wants will help you easily narrow down your choices. Ask yourself relevant questions such as: what type of music do I like? How big is the room where the audio system will be installed? How many speakers do I want? What is the existing theme in the room? What brand to I trust? These questions will help you determine what particular type and brand of home audio system you should settle for.

More and more people are now turning to karaoke bars as a fun and easy way to spend the weekend with friends and family. By nature, karaoke bars are generally places where you can either rent a room or take the center stage and give your best rendition of your favorite song, chosen from a musical playlist provided by the establishment. While some people may cringe at the possibility of extreme humiliation and disgrace that such a performance might entail, many are still enticed to try out these karaoke bars for the sake of the fun and the experience. For those who want to try out this particular activity, here are some tips in finding good karaoke bars.

The internet is a great source of information on any subject and this case is no exception. You can easily search for karaoke bar toronto or those that are operating near your area using a search engine like Google or Yahoo, or you can check-out FindKaraokeTonight.com to locate some of the best karaoke bars in town.

Ani DiFranco is well-recognized in the music scene and popularly known as a ‘Feminist icon’. There are a lot of things about her that makes her stand out amongst other singers in the industry. Difranco is not only a Grammy-Award winning singer but she is also a very talented poet, songwriter and guitarist. Her multi-faceted musical and creative talent allowed her to showcase her philosophy. Through her songs, she was able to raise awareness about Feminism. Feminists, like DiFranco, belong to a strong class that challenges the capitalist and patriarchal ideologies that controls the world.

DiFranco opened the eyes of many women who are still stuck in the old and outdated ideologies of a male-dominated world. For the past centuries, men have always been recognized as the most dominant species. Back in the olden days, women are only expected to perform house duties and noting more. They are never seen as the equal of men but thanks to the rise of feminism in the seventies, women have now created a resistance against the ‘housewife syndrome’ and are very much willing to fight for gender equality.

While there are still women who choose to resist these dominant ideologies without doing anything, DiFranco was different. She was very open about her sexuality and has proudly identified herself as a ‘Bisexual’. Although most of her musical materials are more of autobiographical, she also expresses her strong political views in many of her songs. DiFranco’s music mostly tackles about pressing social issues like sexism, reproductive rights, war, poverty, sexual abuse and racism.

What really makes Ani DiFranco so unique is the fact that she is not afraid to express herself and she continues to challenge dominant ideologies in the society. Her songs are so inspiring and she is well-loved for that. Because of DiFranco’s inspiring songs, many women have mustered up the courage to make a stand for themselves. She has truly become a great inspiration to women all over the world.

Being an independent artist and owning her very own record label, Ani DiFranco enjoyed creative freedom in her musical career. Though the road to musical success was not always that easy, DiFranco stayed positive and continued to create songs that truly inspires. She is not afraid to communicate her political views through her songs even if it means she has to go against corporate ideologies. Despite the fact that most radio stations are still being controlled by the corporate music industry, DiFranco is not afraid to inject what she believes and stands for in her songs.

Whether she writes about songs containing rebelling lyrics against men or songs about sexuality and racism, DiFranco has always had the special ability to touch listeners through her meaningful song lyrics. She is not afraid to reinforce her own beliefs in the songs she writes and sings thus allowing her to become a great inspiration for people who hide behind dogmatic and obstinate dominant ideologies that continue to linger even in the modern society.

With a great variety of DJ Software products available in the market today, choosing the best one can become a bit challenging particularly to those buying it for the first time. In fact, there are as many dj mixing software products as there are laptops and computers. So the question is – how do you pick the right mixing software to satisfy your djing needs?

Buying dj mixing software is pretty much like purchasing other items. You have to take note of certain factors to help you make the right buying decisions. In that regard, here are the important criteria that you have to look for in the DJ software product that you should purchase.

Input/Output – It is advised that you look for a djing software that comes with dozens of features for importing applications and audio files. A software application that offers karaoke capabilities, MIDI compatibility and the ability to burn audio on CD/DVD would surely be a great choice and will most certainly offer good value for your money.

Tech Support – Go for djing software products made by brands that are known to have reliable tech support. Just like when you acquire a DJ equipment, it is reassuring to know that there is a dependable tech support line that you can reach should you encounter problems or technical difficulties with the djing software product that you bought.

Quality and Performance – Just like when procuring other DJ Equipment, be sure to procure a djing software product that will offer you good quality and will perform as advertised. Of course, it is important that you are confident about your purchase and that you are guaranteed that it will be able to carry out its intended tasks while also being able to run smoothly and efficiently.

Ever heard about the Riot Grrrl phenomenon is the 90’s? If this is your first time hearing about this, then let me tell you the story behind the Riot Grrrl ethos. It is basically an underground feminist movement based in Portland, Oregon; Washington, DC; and Olympia, Washington. The term is heavily associated with the music scene , but Riot Grrrl is also part of activism, zines, art, political action and DIY meeting.

A number of female rock and punk musicians in the late seventies and early eighties influenced the core philosophy of Riot Grrrl, which include the some of the following female bands:

LiLiPUT

The Runaways

Chalk Circle

Bush Tetras

Anti-Scrunti Faction

Fifth Column

Scrawl

Most Riot Grrrl bands depict social issues such as sexuality, racism, female empowerment, rape and domestic abuse in their song lyrics. The eighties featured a handful of NY folk singers who came up with socio-political, realistic and personally intimate song lyrics. In the early nighties, a cosmopolitan DIY infrastructure was formed in the Seattle-Olympia Washington Area. A lot of young women get involved with underground music as their means to articulate their stand on feminism. They formed their own garage bands and created punk-rock fanzines. The feminist group used collage-based booklets and photocopied hand bills to promote underground music. While most of these women are identified in a large music subculture, many of them realize that they have minimal or no voice (at all) in the local scene. No phlebotomist training there for sure. And so, they represented their philosophy through music, art and fanzines. In 1991, feminist voices coalesced under the name ‘Riot Grrrl’. They had their first collective but unorganized response in the same year where feminist voices were heard in various events, actions and a number of protests.

As the attention of the media centered on Alternative and Grunge Rock during the early 1990’s, the term ‘Riot Grrrl was used to refer to less political female rock performers such as the Breeders, L7, 7 Year Bitch, No Doubt, and The Gits. By the middle of the nineties, the Riot Grrrl movement has been heavily fragmented. A lot of women who joined the movement felt that their message has been misrepresented and the politically radical aspect of the movement had been capsized by the likes of ‘Spice Girls’ and overshadowed by their ‘girl power’ message.

Although the popularity of Riot Grrrl has diminished over the years, a lot of women associated with the movement are still active in making politically-charged musical pieces.

It’s the female species turn to steal the glittering lights at the music scene. Girl bands are sprouting like mushrooms! Whether you are watching an MTV or just listening to your mp3, their songs always make it to the top charts. Girl bands indeed have dominated the music scene. With their unique rendition of songs and sexy outfits, they have certainly mesmerized the crowd. But which girl band ranked as the best among the best? Now let us have a glimpse on who made it to the top 5 greatest girl bands of all time

#5: L7
If you dig rock n roll, these girls really know how to bang their heads in musical encore. The L7 became a crowd favorite with 90’s hit, “Pretend We’re Dead.” This edgy girl band had their first musical debut when Redd Kross was pulled out of a musical gig. These feisty looking girls really know how to put up adrenaline pumping rock and roll!

#4: The Bangles
The Bangles was a 1980’s sensational hit. This girl band has scored several hit singles during their time. The Bangles musical debut album, “All Over the Place” marked their niche in the music industry. Hit singles from the album, “Hero Takes a Fall” and “Going Down to Liverpool” has gained massive public popularity.

#3: The Runaways
For another rock and roll feat, the Runaways surely know how to pump some music action. This all American girl band recorded several great hits in the late 1970’s such as “The Cherry Bomb”, “Born to be Bad” and “Neon Angels”. This punk girl band featured five hot white chicks.

#2: The Go Go’s
A rock chick band that is famous in 1978, the Go Go’s was the first ever-female band that composed their own songs. The popularity of this chick band rose to high levels in the 1980’s. The “Beauty and the Beat”, was the Go Go’s surprise hit which managed to reach the US chart’s number one spot for six consecutive weeks. One of their popular hit singles, the “My Lips are Sealed” made them America’s sweethearts.

#1: Poison
This eerie looking girl band is known for their heavy make up and quirky dress code. These four girls, Brett the singer; C.C. or Christina Catherine the guitarist; Bobby the bassist; and Rikki the drummer, had the guts to write songs that echoed the desires of their hearts. Their hit single “Every Rose has its Thorn”contained some interesting lyrics.

Undisputedly, Franklin had been the ‘Queen of Soul’ for the past five decades and still continues to be recognized as one up to this day. Born in the 25th of March 1942, Aretha’s musical influence came in early. When she was little, Aretha sang at the Baptist church where her father worked as a pastor. At the young age of 14, she already recorded the ‘Gospel Sound of Arethe Franklin’ but she did not start her professional musical career until the sixties when she joined Columbia Records. However, she only experienced musical success by the time she signed for Atlantic Records six years later, in 1966. Aretha was highly recognized for her very powerful voice and for her effortless singing. Whether she sings R&B, Gospel, Rock, Blues, or Soul, she can coolly and dexterously belt it out creating equal nonchalance. Being the first woman to be inducted in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Aretha Franklin definitely deserves a spot in this list.

Janis Joplin

Janis is known for her goose-bump inducing songs. She pours all of her raw emotions in every performance that is why her music was loved by many. As a teenager, Janis have already immersed herself in folk and blues music despite being socially awkward and somewhat an outcast while she was growing up. In 1963, she left the small town of Port Arthur in Texas to pursue her singing career in San Francisco. Three years after she left Texas, in 1966, Janis joined a vehement acid rock band called as Big Brother and the Holding Company. After Janis joined the band, they started to get more attention and in 1967 their Monterey Pop Festival performance finally brought them in the limelight. However, Janis’s position in the band was short-lived. She went solo and has successfully recorded two solo albums thereafter. Janis Joplin died of a heroin overdose in the 4th of October in 1970. But she left a mark in the Rock & Roll music scene with her outstanding performance and amazing vocals.

Tina Turner

Who doesn’t know Tina Turner? The Queen of Rock N’ Roll first got the taste of commercial breakthrough in 1984 when she released Private Dancer and her top 1 single ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’. Turner, whose real name is Anna Mae Bullock, met Ike Turner, a Saint Louis R&B artist, and became the back-up singer for the band ‘The Kings of Rhythm’ in1957. But because of her very impressive voice, Ike gave her the stage name ‘Tina’ and changed the name of the band to ‘Ike & Tina Turner Revue’. The band released a slew of great hits throughout the sixties and culminated a Grammy award in 1972 for a single in their Proud Mary cover. In 1991, the duo claimed a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Aside from her successful singing career, Tina was also known for her several acting performances; one of the most notable is her role as the Acid Queen.

In a nutshell, Lilith Fair is a travelling concert tour and music festival established by Marty Diamond (NY talent agent), Sarah McLachlan (famous Canadian musician) and Terry McBride and Dan Fraser of Nettwerk Music Group during the summers of 1997 to 1990. The festival features only female solo artists and female-led bands to raise funds for women charities in North America.

Feminists deemed it is best for the women’s movement to use culture as one of the ways to advance their causes and to continue raising the people’s awareness in the plethora of issues faced by women in the society. In fact, feminism in popular culture media such as music, films and television has been re-emerging in the past decade.

Among all these pop culture materials that have at least a tad of feminist principles in them, the one that is considered to be most influential is the Lilith fair. This music festival has given a huge impact in America’s feminist struggle during the 1990s. Cultural feminism is the primary type of feminism heralded by the music festival. Women all over America were united in celebration of their femininity through the use of music.

Though the occasion is usually consisted of white women, the ideas of feminism indeed permeated the event. The songs convey messages of empowering the women and encouraging them to partake in creating the nation’s history, not just becoming passive watchers of the development’s unfurling. Lilith Fair was also able to bring a diverse crowd together to celebrate womanhood and the blessings of music.

Originally, Lilith Fair was organized to give a better light to the women performers in the music industry because women artists are usually driven into oblivion by boy bands and male solo artists. When the festival/concert tour became incredibly popular, many female artists such as Sarah McLachlan herself graced the covers of many major magazines. They have also been invited as guests to numerous talk shows on television.

Lilith Fair’s most important contribution to the feminist movement was the fact that it has started a new promotional campaign for young ladies and women. Meanwhile, in the music scene, the movement was also very visible due to the numerous event and concert tours that they have organized. Female power and femininity were the most dominant themes of the campaigns headed by the artists. The products they endorsed ranged from Tampax to Special K and to Nike. With the concert tour’s success, it seemed like everybody was cashing in on feminism—the cultural type, that is.

Thanks to Lilith Fair, the musical scene was graced by inspirational and encouraging songs centering on feminism and womanhood. Those who were involved in the movement continue to bring inspiration to women all over the world through their music and their many concert performances.
